International Karst Conservation Workshop

This is an important event for show caves: show cave management and development is a main issue of nature conservation. Obviously, as the development of a show cave has great impact on the cave.

This conference is organized by the Nature Conservancy of the U.S.A.. It takes place at Crescent Hotel, Eureka Springs, Arkansas, this week. Attendants are from  the U.S.A., Mexico, Dominican Republic, and China.

8th National Caving Congress

The 8th National Caving Congress of the Philippines is held on March 31-April 6, 2008 in Cagayan de Oro City together with the Philippine Speleological Society Rescue Workshop. It is not really a show cave related event, but as cave tourism is important for the Phillipines it is organized by Speleo Mindanao, Inc., Conservation & Restoration Exercise, Inc. in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the Department of Tourism and the local government units of Cagayan de Oro, Manolo Fortich and Sumilao in Bukidnon.

The mayor of the city is rather enthusiastic about the event, as he hopes to develop the caves in the city and promote cave tourism. He is planning to develop the Calavera Cave and its surroundings, and the Macahambus, Monigue and Huluga caves. We will stay tuned about this future show caves…

Neanderthals in the Harz, Germany

In October 2006 at the Einhornhöhle (Unicorn Cave) in the Harz in northern Germany, for one weekend the Neandertals will be revived. First discovered 300km to the east, in the Neanderthal (valley of the Neander river), this early relative of us humans is found all over Europe. One site with remains is the Harz, a mountain region with many caves.

Show Cave Conference in Germany

From 31-MAR-2006 to 02-APR-2006 the show cave conference Schauhöhlen im Spannungsfeld zwischen Umweltschutz und Massentourismus will be held in central Germany.

The main topic will be cave conservation and sustainability versus mass tourism and the mass publication of local show caves.

This is a rather small conference and the conference language will be German, but nevertheless all participants should understand English too. Contributions are still accepted.

Location: Jugendwaldheim Rathsfeld, Steinthaleben (Kyffhäuserkreis, Thüringen), Germany

Schauhöhlenseminar 2005

This conference about show caves takes place between October 21 and 23 in Gams bei Hieflau in Austria.

This is a traditional conference on show caves, in the country which more or less inventend many aspects of modern show caves. One of very few countries where cave guides need an exam.

So if you are interested, hurry.
